With his unfulfilled desire that Rama to be the King lingering in his heart, Bharata ruled the kingdom with Nandigrama as the Capital. All along his period of administration, he worshiped Rama’s Padukas daily, eagerly awaiting Rama’s return.

However, Rama gave his Padukas (wooden footwear) to Bharata and bid him farewell. (The Padukas represent Rama’s bounteous grace and direction to rule the Kingdom).
